Do Not Laugh At My Folly

A poem by Yuan Mei (1716–1797), tr. Arthur Waley:
If at seventy I still plant trees,
Lookers-on, do not laugh at my folly.
It is true of course that no one lives forever;
But nothing is gained by knowing so in advance.

Anton Lock (1893-1979), The Sapling
