See fierce bigots rise! 380
Faith in their mouths, and fury in their eyes;
With mystic spells and charms encompass'd round,
And creeds obscure, to puzzle and confound;
While boding prophets in hoarse notes foretell
The ripen'd vengeance of wide-gaping hell; 385
And pledging round the chalice of their ire,
Scatter the terrors of eternal fire.
