Money is the most valuable thing to men, and it has the most power of all things among men.The Greek (id., p. 336):
τὰ χρήματ᾿ ἀνθρώποισι τιμιώτατα,Strabo refers to this as a "common saying," but doesn't identify the source. Neither does Jones in his Loeb edition. The lines come from Euripides, Phoenician Women 439-440.
δύναμίν τε πλείστην τῶν ἐν ἀνθρώποις ἔχει.
