Die Gedanken Sind Frei
Seneca, On Benefits 3.20.1 (tr. John W. Basore):

It is a mistake for anyone to believe that the condition of slavery penetrates into the whole being of a man. The better part of him is exempt. Only the body is at the mercy and disposition of a master; but the mind is its own master, and is so free and unshackled that not even this prison of the body, in which it is confined, can restrain it from using its own powers, following mighty aims, and escaping into the infinite to keep company with the stars.Related post: Thoughts are Free.
