Yet death, that's common to all, not the gods themselves
can ward off even from a man they love, whenever
the dire fate of pitiless death has once got hold of him.
ἀλλ᾿ ἦ τοι θάνατον μὲν ὁμοίιον οὐδὲ θεοί περ
καὶ φίλῳ ἀνδρὶ δύναται ἀλαλκέμεν, ὁππότε κεν δὴ
μοῖρ᾿ ὀλοὴ καθέλῃσι τανηλεγέος θανάτοιο.
