War's Embrace

Homer, Iliad 17.227-228 (tr. Peter Green):
So let each man make straight for the foe, whether to perish
or come safely through: that's the sweet embrace of warfare.

τώ τις νῦν ἰθὺς τετραμμένος ἢ ἀπολέσθω
ἠὲ σαωθήτω· ἣ γὰρ πολέμου ὀαριστύς.
ὀαριστύς is meeting, intimate conversation, dalliance, from ὄαρ = wife.
