Early to Rise

Hesiod, Works and Days 578-581 (tr. M.L. West):
For the morning accounts for a third of the work:
morning forwards the journey, forwards the job,
morning, whose appearance puts many a man
on the road, and sets the yoke on many an ox.

The same (tr. A.E. Stallings):
One-third of work is Dawn's own share to ask,
Dawn lights the path, Dawn offers you the task,
Dawn shows herself, and sets men on their way;
Dawn yokes the oxen at the break of day.
