Homer, Odyssey 3.47-48 (tr. Peter Green):
                                               He, too, I take it, prays
to the immortals: all humans stand in need of the gods.

                          καὶ τοῦτον ὀίομαι ἀθανάτοισιν
εὔχεσθαι· πάντες δὲ θεῶν χατέουσ᾽ ἄνθρωποι.
