Powell was studying manuscripts of Thucydides in the Vatican Library, and Freeth recalled later that Powell was praying that the Pope, who was ill, would not die; because if he did the library would close, and Powell would be unable to work; the Pope did not die, and Powell finished his task.Hat tip: Eric Thomson.
