Silius Italicus 7.88-89 (tr. J.D. Duff):
So great is the sudden piety of men in time of trouble; but altars seldom smoke in prosperous times.

tanta adeo, cum res trepidae, reverentia divum
nascitur; at rarae fumant felicibus arae.
