The Fight

Heraclitus, fragment 44 (from Diogenes Laertius 9.2; tr. W.H.S. Jones):
The people must fight for their law just as for their city wall.

μάχεσθαι χρὴ τὸν δῆμον ὑπὲρ τοῦ νόμου ὅκωσπερ τείχεος.
