Smoke and Fire

Plautus, Curculio 53-54 (tr. Wolfgang de Melo):

Nothing can be burned by smoke, but anything can be burned by flame.

semper tu scito, flamma fumo est proxuma;
fumo comburi nil potest, flamma potest.
