A Doddering Old Man on the Throne

But the fact is (and you will have to laugh when you hear it) that the Carthaginians have taken leave of their senses and have either persuaded or compelled a miserable old man, doddering in advanced senility, to accept the throne, making sport of the empire as if in deliberate mockery.
ἀλλὰ γὰρ (μή τι ἄρα καὶ καταγέλαστον εἰπεῖν) Καρχηδόνιοι μεμήνασι, καὶ πρεσβύτην ἄθλιον, ἐν ἐσχάτῳ γήρᾳ παραφρονοῦντα, πείσαντες ἢ βιασάμενοι ὥσπερ ἐν πομπαῖς παίζουσι βασιλείαν.
