Gifts of the Gods

Homer, Iliad 3.65-66 (tr. Richmond Lattimore):
Never to be cast away are the gifts of the gods, magnificent,
which they give of their own will, no man could have them for wanting them.

οὔ τοι ἀπόβλητ᾽ ἐστὶ θεῶν ἐρικυδέα δῶρα
ὅσσά κεν αὐτοὶ δῶσιν, ἑκὼν δ᾽ οὐκ ἄν τις ἕλοιτο.
The same, tr. A.T. Murray:
Not to be flung aside, look you, are the glorious gifts of the gods,
even all that of themselves they give, whereas by his own will could no man win them.
Paraphrase of Theodoros Gazes:
οὐ φαῦλα καὶ ἀποβολῆς ἄξιά εἰσι τὰ μεγάλως ἔνδοξα δῶρα τῶν θεῶν, ὅσαπερ ἂν αὐτοὶ χαρίσονται, οἰκείᾳ δὲ θελήσει οὐδεὶς ἂν δύναιτο λαβεῖν.
