He considered joy and grief to be the supreme good and evil, the one brought about by wisdom, the other by folly.
τέλος δ᾽ ὑπελάμβανε χαρὰν καὶ λύπην· τὴν μὲν ἐπὶ φρονήσει, τὴν δ᾽ ἐπὶ ἀφροσύνῃ.
