Judging Fairly

Seneca, Medea 199-200 (tr. Moses Hadas):
Whoso passes sentence with one party unheard—
even though the sentence be just, not just was the judge.

qui statuit aliquid parte inaudita altera,
aequum licet statuerit, haud aequus fuit.
