Letter-Head of the Society for the Prevention of Progress

Biologist Joel W. Hedgpeth (1911-2006) founded the Society for the Prevention of Progress almost seventy years ago. It is ripe for revival. Ian Jackson kindly sent me a copy of the Society's letter-head, which I uploaded to my new web site, with a link on the Shared Documents page. You can download the letter-head there.

The letter-head contains a quotation from Leviticus 25.23 (KJV):
The land shall not be sold forever: for the land is mine, for ye are strangers and sojourners with me.
and a statement of purpose:
The purpose of this society is to oppose, and if possible, prevent the further encroachment of material civilization on the natural environment, because it is believed that such exploitation violates the terms of the lease granted to mankind by nature.
Joel W. Hedgpeth
