Time

Sophocles, Ajax 714 (my translation):
Powerful time extinguishes all things.

πάνθ᾽ ὁ μέγας χρόνος μαραίνει.
Sophocles, Oedipus at Colonus 607-609 (tr. Hugh-Lloyd-Jones):
Dearest son of Aegeus, for the gods alone there is no old age and no death ever, but all other things are submerged by all-powerful time!

ὦ φίλτατ᾿ Αἰγέως παῖ, μόνοις οὐ γίγνεται
θεοῖσι γῆρας οὐδὲ κατθανεῖν ποτε,
τὰ δ᾿ ἄλλα συγχεῖ πάνθ᾿ ὁ παγκρατὴς χρόνος.
