The Injunctions of My Elders

A poem by Tao Yuanming (365–427), tr. in R.H. Blyth (1898-1964), Oriental Humour (Tokyo: Hokuseido Press, 1959; rpt. 1968), p. 31:
Long ago I heard the injunctions of my elders,
But stopped my ears, so disagreeable were they.
Now, after fifty years and more,
I suddenly find myself saying the very same things.
