There is a lithograph by Daumier called “The book-lover in heaven” (from Le Charivari, November 5, 1844) which perfectly illustrates the fascination rarity holds for the bibliophile. It shows a man thumbing through a little book and explaining to another book-lover, “I can’t tell you how happy I am … I’ve just found the 1780 Amsterdam edition of Horace for fifty écus — it’s very valuable, because every page is covered with misprints!”Honoré Daumier, Un bouquiniste dans l'ivresse:
