The Most Intractable of All Wild Beasts

Clement of Alexandria, Exhortation to the Greeks 1.4.1 (tr. G.W. Butterworth):
He at least is the only one who ever tamed the most intractable of all wild beasts—man: for he tamed birds, that is, flighty men; reptiles, that is, crafty men; lions, that is, passionate men; swine, that is, pleasure-loving men; wolves, that is, rapacious men.
