Is Death So Terrible?

Vergil, Aeneid 12.646-649 (Turnus speaking; tr. C.H. Sisson):
                               Is death so terrible?
Be kind to me, you spirits of the dead,
For those above have turned away their eyes.
I will come down to you a stainless soul,
Clear of the cowardice you hate, nor ever
Unworthy of my valiant ancestors.

usque adeone mori miserum est? vos o mihi, Manes,
este boni, quoniam superis aversa voluntas.
sancta ad vos anima atque istius inscia culpae
descendam magnorum haud umquam indignus avorum.
