In his later years (during the early 19th century), he was the priest of a parish on the outskirts of Staffordshire who, when not preaching sermons to a sparse congregation, published variously on Classical matters. His only companions were a housekeeper of advanced years, Mrs Eurycleia Smith, a learned cat called Cicero who loved to recline on his Classical dictionaries and lexica, a voluble parrot called Cassandra, and his ever-faithful hound Argos, of somewhat decrepit appearance.Related posts:
